What's something that would be really out of character for you? Something that those who know you would be really surprised to see you doing, or hear about?

If I got married and lived with my wife, that would stun everyone :)
That or emigrating!

What new technology is exciting your just now, and why?

I've just discovered how to fit ipods in my parents' car and it means instead of listening to dodgy radio I can have a bit more time with my audiobooks, which they enjoy as well. Though
"I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.”
Douglas Adams, the legend

Who in your life represents the following Archetypes: The Great Mother (someone who nurtures, supports, teaches, organises) The Trickster (someone with an unclear relationship, who helps and hinders, teaches indirect lessons, ?frenemy? ) The Devil (presents an obstacle, a challenge, an adversary).

Thanks for making me think about an interesting question, but I won't be answering it if that's ok with you :)

If you bottle up your emotions, does that make you a strong or a weak person? Why?

I don't know about strong or weak but i's not a good idea.
Have a good cry, maybe get drunk (unless you're an alcholic), go for a non-erotic massage or something.A strong person acknowledges their feelings but tries to avoid getting too hung up on things.
And some music

Inspired by @FreckleFaceDimpleCheek 'a reply about skipping college (here: "skiving" / "twagging".) At college in the '80s I only twagged once, and ended up facing disciplinary action from my employer at the time when they found out?. Tell me about a time you skipped something you shouldn't have?

No, I'm not a convincing enough liar!
On New Year's Eve 2003/4 my flight back from Prague was cancelled so I couldn't go to work. We had a fantastic night, the best of our holiday, but I wasn't skiving work intentionally and I was a bit worried about the repercussions at work.
I was so nervous on the phone, and it's such an implausible thing (though it was genuine), they probably assumed I was skiving but didn't mind as half the workforce had come up with some cock and bull story!

"People in their late Middle Ages seem to vote for policies that are set in the Late Middle Ages". Do you think there's some truth to this, or is it a sweeping generalisation?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
This is interesting because people who vote Leave & UKIP/Tory (what's the difference nowadays) want to go back to the past but are actually voting for revolutionary change the architechts of which haven't bothered to plan ahead.

This is even more true than ever since the referendum!
People look for "strong and stable" but what they'll get is anyone's guess, as it hasn't been properly thought through.

What is your favourite home remedy for headaches? I'm just now recovering from a pretty bad one that started yesterday. I know some of you deal (or have dealt) with with much worse pain than that, though, so I'm hoping you'll have some advice.

Lots of greenery, in the garden or a park if you don't have one.
I often wind myself up over irrelevant things but I know "the cure" for that :)

I just had to delete some photos from my tablet so I could add some more.Do you ever feel that no matter how fast technology advances, tech moves too fast for its own good, leaving day to day gadgets inefficient, as developers rush to move on to something else? Or are you happy with your appliances?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
Yes, I certainly agree that "planned obsolescence" is a thing and why do my devices have to soend more time on charge than they did 5 years ago? You'd have thought it would be less, especially given that I don't use most of the apps that are i installed.
http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20160612-heres-the-truth-about-the-planned-obsolescence-of-tech
Not to sound like some old dodderer but why, for instance, do they not make the ipod classic any more? Audiophiles appreciate the fact that it focused solely on the music and not on pointless whizzy gadgets.
Also the time when, due to a load of pointless apps (that I later manually disabled) my phone ran out when it was on 59% charge (!) as I was talking to my girlfriend (!) I ran home to a load of furious texts about how she couldn't believe what I'd done to her and never wanted to see me again, we made up when I explained things but since then I've been glued to a charger for hours every day.
I accept I should have been more careful. Only why were all these apps installed in the first place when I never asked for them?

Do you have a favorite type of tree? What is it and why? If not do you have a favorite flower or plant instead?

I like bluebells, I'm a bit sad at this time of year to see dead bluebells in the woods.
"I do not think that I have ever seen anything more beautiful than the bluebell I have been looking at. I know the beauty of our Lord by it. Its inscape is mixed of strength and grace, like an ash-tree” Gerard Manley Hopkins.

When our city changed its ambulance fleet it realised only too late that they were too low to the ground to get over "sleeping soldiers" (traffic bumps), common on our residential roads. What's your least favourite traffic calming measure?Pic: a roundabout, south England https://goo.gl/images/jYwrx6

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
That looks foul!
I hate those metal things that are intended to deter cars and motorbikes, they get in the way of my cycling horribly, and even worse they actually prevent wheelchair users from getting around my local beauty spot!?
I don't exactly relish the temporary traffic lights that are often used between Stoke and Crewe, but the metal cycling barriers are worse.

What movie or TV show have you not seen that virtually everyone else has seen?

Anything Star Wars/Trek related, what's that all about?

The school holiday is coming closer and closer. What is your one great plan for summer holidays?

As a grown up I don't have long holidays the way children & student twats do, but I'm looking forward to this in September!

It's very hard but the hardship (vegetarian diet, no electricity or running water, hard work, drink out of a stream) is what makes it so rewarding.
You can really see the results of your efforts in a way that doesn't happen in my office job.
For instance, when our predecessors came here 25 years ago and planted the first trees, they were enclosed and you can see the trees on one side and the barren ground on the other.
Planting those trees was some of the hardest work I've ever done but I have this to look forward to!
(And time in Edinburgh, one of my fave cities)

Friends, have any of you ever used airbnb, or know someone who has? If so, how was the experience? If not, would you ever consider using it?

Sadly I can't say anything about it as I haven't used it, I'd rather stay in a hotel because I don't want to be bothered by the host interrupting my rest time :)
