On a scale of 1 to 10, how well do you sing?

I usually begin with a two and it increases a point after every two beers. I hardly go beyond beer number 6 on a crazy night, though.

Music preference?

Depends on the occasion, naturally. I listen to Sigur Ros or Damien Rice for some inspirational angst, but I prefer some loud Boys Like Girls or Secondhand Serenade for videoke. On ordinary days of insanity, Eraserheads and Beatles consume me. Read my first novel and you’ll hopefully understand.

This is not a question. I just want to say that your ask.fm account is an answered prayer =)

I envy your religiosity.

I'm sorry I sent the question twice. Thanks for answering anyway.

No problem. Some questions need to be re-asked.

After Tagalog romance pocketbooks comes Wattpad teen fiction. Is the public's literary tastes problematic, or it's just a matter of literary divide between what's 'elite' and 'pop'?

It just means that readers are plural, as we all know, and that we choose to pass the time differently.

Which exotic place would you love to visit?

Anywhere you’re willing to take me, as long as I haven’t been there before. A place with pusong/bagani/diwata/nuno sightings is a plus.

What would you do today if there is no more tomorrow?

I will finish my second poetry book. Yes, I still write poems.

What is the next big thing that will blow people’s minds?

Janus Silang Book 2. No, seriously, the next big thing assumes that we just had one enormous eureka moment. But what was it? We were so blissful in our (post)colonial glory we might have missed it entirely.

What is your take on the Wattpad teen fiction boom here in our country?

As in anything, its cultural value depends largely on its ability to shape some critical consciousness in the long run. Entertainment is perishable; critique is transformative.

What’s the nicest thing that anyone has ever said to you?

That I never easily forget, which is also a bad thing, I understand.

What do you think is the greatest problem facing the teenagers of today?

Sometimes, that feeling of entitlement. Often, lack of focus.

How old were you when you learned how to ride a bike?

I learned the bike much later than everyone else in our village—when I was ten, because I did not have my own bike, and had to borrow my younger brother’s.

How old were you when you started playing video games?

Does game & watch count? If yes, since I was about 6. That Popeye section in my novel Walong Diwata ng Pagkahulog is partly autobiographical.

Do you have a nickname? What is it?

I use my nickname in my personal FB account. I suppose you’re not my FB friend?
