How did people have fun 200 years ago?

People had fun without cartoons to keep them entertained? Inconceivable, you must be a real ignoramus to believe something like that.

What kind of watch do you wear?

I wear a good watch. It's a very good watch and I never go anywhere without it.
I never used to understand the appeal of watches, so when I was younger and my dad would show me a fancy watch in a store and say "If I ever had a bit more money, I'd buy a watch like this" and I would stand there nodding my head in agreement, not really getting the appeal. It's only when I actually got a watch of my own that I properly understood the appeal of watches and now, it just feels wrong to leave without that extra bit of weight around my wrist; it almost feels like I'm naked without it.

Opinions on the different mediums/websites to discuss anime that you use/have tried?

yurisses’s Profile Photoyurisses
MAL: It has some okay people on it, but generally the community is pretty terrible and the website was borderline unusable. If I discuss anime on there it's only to the people I talk to frequently on other mediums. I don't really engage in forum discussion or anything of that nature outside of the odd forum post every now and then. It's definitely the nicest website from an aesthetic point of view.
Hummingbird: The layout is awful and puts me off wanting to use it, far too weeb for my tastes (mainly those obnoxious quotes from a title at the top of the page for it) so, no thanks.
Anichart: I used it a while ago but it's been ages since then and I know it's changed dramatically. I remember thinking it was okay though, had some things I liked and others I thought it would be better off without.
AniDB: Overly complicated, fussy layout. Elitist community. Not for me.
Twitter: Tweetdeck > Twitter but yeah, Twitter is pretty cool. I've met a lot of people I like on here and it's always nice to be able to post screencaps. Twitter also made me aware of Sakuga and made me more interested in animation as a whole so there's also that.

Describe your IRC #brand

Being away from IRC and never being around for those simulwatches I said I'd take part in. Yup.

honoka or lexi: choose now

OKAY I KNOW WHO'S ASKING THIS SO I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR.
Look, I know I have an obsession with Honoka (and her legs), but 11 times out of 10, I would choose Lexi hands down. 3DPD is not bad okay. It's pretty good. Honoka is a very cute fictional girl but she's not Lexi.
I'm not one of those crazy people who is so obsessed with their 2D waifu that they would willingly abandon 3D relationships. Lexi is best girl okay.

Yes, but the *real* question is: Are you really feeling it?

Yes, I'm feeling it.
Yes, I think this line has been butchered to death thanks to the Smash community.
Yes, I think every time I hear Shulk say this now I will forever get flashbacks to hearing people I know yelling "I'M REALLY FEELING IT" and inaccurately quoting it whenever they're playing Smash.
Yes, I'M REALLY FEELING IT.

I also think you are cool by the way But not as cool as Mana

If this is Nick or Jao then I cannot help but express my disappointment over this.

What are some of the games you like to play *other* than RPG's? Anything cool you're playing right now, yo?

I'm actually a pretty big fan of platformers and I've more recently developed an interest in point and click games if only to see where their writing takes them. I've been having a Megaman binge recently (although 5 games of near enough the same thing did burn me out a bit, I'll get back to it though), and if you're a fan of platforming then I'd definitely recommend checking out Megaman 3 and 4 if you haven't done so already. I've also been playing Freedom Planet recently and, for lack of a better description, it's essentially Sonic with more gameplay mechanics and more story content. The story isn't all that great but it's not really all that important either. The levels are well designed and fun to navigate, the platforming never feels frustrating and the combat feels like just the right level of challenge for this kind of game without causing potential insanity. I've also been playing Crypt of the Necrodancer recently and whilst I'm not really a fan of roguelikes, I will say: Play it. It's amazing. It takes two genres of gaming that probably shouldn't merge together at all and turns them into a spectacular experience and a game that has (shockingly) genuine originality in both concept and execution.

Ye ever been to ye ol' Ireland?

Sadly not. I'd love to visit it though. My dad's family originates from Ireland and visiting places like Dublin, Belfast and Portrush (my dad's hometown no-less) would be great.

Xenoblade Chronicles is the *best*, innit? What's your favourite character (and favourite monster design) from it?

Xenoblade is pretty great and definitely a contender for my favourite RPG. (Although it's got to compete with a couple of others to take that spot.)
Favourite character: Shulk. Boring choice I know, but I think that Shulk makes for a refreshing main character. The thing about Xenoblade is that it isn't really a 'coming-of-age' tale like so many other JRPGs. Shulk is far from naive, he's smart, competent and has a pretty justifiable reasons for doing what he's doing. Shulk is very much the voice of reason for the party, which is an odd thing to have for a main character. Under normal circumstances it'd be Dunban or Sharla or any of the other older characters acting as the reasoning guiding Shulk but Shulk maintains a constant level of maturity and level-headedness throughout. He takes time to think things through and the few times he does rush headlong into a situation are pretty justifiable and make for some of the game's most intense scenes. I've not yet completed the game so I can't fully judge him just yet, but at this stage it'd take a lot for any other character to beat him.
Favourite monster design: Hmmmm, that's tricky. It's hard for me to think of one monster design in particular I like the most because, contrary to what you might expect, I don't think Xenoblade's monster design stands out all that much. Probably...the Clifftop Bayern. It stood out to me because it was the only enemy design I felt was threatening in some way. (The Mechon designs are pretty good though.) Unlike other monsters in the game, this one actually feels kind of threatening and I like that.

I know some things have been getting you down lately, man, but let no one ever tell you ye'r not awesome! Keep rocking, you *messy* rat.

Thanks! This actually means a lot, really. Things haven't exactly been going great recently, but it's really nice to be able to read something like this, thanks a lot anon :)

Favorite RPG?

Damn, right in there with the tough questions.
I don't have a particular "favourite RPG" because I've not yet completed several of the ones I want to play and I don't know if I could ever choose an all-time 'favourite', at least not at this point in time.
If I was to name a couple of favourites though: Shadow Hearts 2, Xenoblade Chronicles, Infinite Space and Tales of Xillia spring to mind.

What would you name your next/first pet?

I am going to get a cat and he will be called Jasper because I believe that Jasper is the best cat name.

What are your favourite spring shows and why?

I'm assuming you mean the shows that I'm most anticipating, right? It'd be weird otherwise considering that they haven't even aired...
Well, in no particular order:
Digimon Adventure Tri - Digimon Adventure is one of my all time favourite shows and I'm not ashamed to admit that (I rewatched it recently and it was fantastic), I don't have a lot of faith in Toei, and the new character designs are really lacklustre, but I still want to believe that this show will turn out alright. Besides, I somehow doubt we can get another Sailor Moon Crystal...
Shokugeki no Souma - The manga is super enjoyable and what I've seen of the PVs seem to capture the craziness and absurdity that it does so well. I have faith in the Souman and his ability to cook up a good show. (Oh man that was such an awful joke why.)
Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works S2 - Based Ufotable adaptation is pretty based and I don't really feel the need to justify looking forward to this. Unless somehow Ufotable manage to ROYALLY fuck things up (and I doubt that'll happen) I'm pretty much guaranteed to enjoy it. The world needs more Rin after all.
Gintama 2015 (because I am not looking for the little symbol they used for it) - Gintama is Gintama, and Gintama always manages to make me laugh so I expect more of the same here. There can never be enough Gintama.
That's it on shows that I genuinely have some expectations for. Other shows I'll be checking out are Baby Steps S2 (m-maybe it'll be better than S1), Daiya S2 (I'm kind of tired of the anime adaptation of Daiya but maybe the second season will go back to when Daiya was in its prime, it seems to have gained popularity too), Nisekoi S2 and Sidonia S2. There are a couple of others that I'll probably try out, but I honestly want to avoid watching too many spring shows and it already looks like I'm digging myself into a corner here like I did last year.

Does Lexi wear the pants?

Jaoaoaoaoao’s Profile PhotoJaooooo
We're actually pretty equal, although I tend to be the one who has to wear the pants in the relationship for the most part. Lots of reasons why.

What's the last book you read?

I'm in the middle of reading it at the moment so I don't know if that counts but Wise Children by Angela Carter. I like it so far, it's very witty in places and quite poignant too. It was written when Carter knew that she was dying from cancer and is a celebration of various things throughout her life and is a huge departure from her other, much more Gothic stuff (quite a bit of which I need to check out, I've read some of her reworked fairy tales and they're interesting stuff). The book is really meta and I like that aspect of it. Carter's very deliberate in everything that she does. There's a particular scene in the first chapter that I like: A character ends up dying due to various circumstances and the narrator, Dora, treats it with a "That's life" attitude. You're not emotionally invested in this character - in fact you don't really know them at all apart from the little descriptions you're given of them only a few pages prior, but it still managed to resonate me because it's still treated as unfortunate, but not in a glorified or melodramatic way. I dunno, maybe it was just me, but the way it was handled was just really effective to me.

whos lexi

My girlfriend and a great one at that. I don't brag about how amazing she is anywhere near as much as I should but she is pretty damn amazing. I've been in some relationships in the past, and she easily blows all those other ones out of the water. We just really get each other and that's something I really like. We have a similar sense of humour so we always know how to make each other laugh. We don't argue, which considering how my last relationship was practically nothing but arguments is a godsend. Our only 'arguments' are really about stuff to do with the pronunciation of different words because of our different nationalities and it causes some heated debates, but it's never serious. She's always fun to be around - and considering that we've had a voice call every single day for the past 10 months of our relationship for several hours at a time, that says a lot. I can't think of anyone else I know that I would be willing to do that for. The fact is that I love her and I love being around her, and I don't usually get all mushy and stuff with regards to stuff like this, but eh, there's always an exception every now and then. It feels good to talk about how great she is.
