be yourself.

don't put out. study, because your future is a lot more important than getting into the popular group.

don't decorate your locker (it's lame. add pictures throughout the school year).

don't bring a backpack to classes, bring a tote, but use a bag to carry all of your books home.

introduce yourself to other freshman on the first day, and try to steer clear of upperclassmen. you'll get to know them eventually, but being too outgoing is really strange.

Clothes:
find a nice median between slutty and junior high. Like, a sweater with a short skirt, and basketball shorts with a camisole.

i really, really, really suggest just giving goodwill a try. (i might get a lot of thumbsdown for that, but it's soooooo much cheaper, which means you can get a lot. i still suggest getting jeans and other pants at high end stores, because you probably won't find any jeans that fit.)

read magazines like Seventeen, because even if the stuff isn't your style, you can get inspiration, and know if you're committing a fashion faux pas.

have a favorite article of clothing, but limit yourself to wearing it once every three weeks.

Makeup:
please please please please please keep it natural!

remember the rule, only accentuate one part of your face at once. Lips or eyes. Eyes are better for school. Lips are better for a party.

If you have a date, only put on a light gloss.

If you...erm....need a wax occasionally (i know i did!) it's ok to go to a salon. don't feel embarrassed. you'll be ridiculed a lot more if you have a mustache or beard. (i actually suggest using an epilady, it's cheaper and done at home.)

use a stencil when shaping your eyebrows (or get them waxed). It took me three years to finally get them right, and I look so much prettier now.

Use a foundation with salycilic acid!!!!!!! THIS WILL SAVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

set the record STRAIGHT. i had most of the school thinking i was a lesbian, because i once played an openly lesbian character in a school play. apparently i'm a really great actress! (i did get to be the spokesperson of the queer straight alliance, a great experience!) P.S. do not post any homophobic comments!

don't scream or something if they want you to play a sport. tell them honestly that you're going to suck, but try your hardest to play. if you mess up, you can just say 'i warned you!"

even if you trip or something, don't get embarrassed. just laugh and smile (unless you broke an arm or something!) because, honestly, it's funny to watch someone fall. and confidence is sexy.

don't go for a taken or gay guy. yeah, it's true, they're usually the best, but there'll always be other guys out there that are available.

if you're shy, talk to the kids that are younger than you. gain confidence from knowing that you're older, and they look up to you, so use that confidence with guy
