do interviewers double check an applicant's answer in their interview by doing a background check on them?
B: HR usually only does a background check when they are close to offering the applicant a position. In my experience, the background check verifies educational background, past work experience and any anomalies (good and bad). Usually just the stuff in the resume and not from the interview.
That being said, you might get away with minor exaggerations, but not outright lies. Be very careful here. Don't say anything that can't be verified!
J: Experiences no, credentials yes. Don't say you graduated from Wharton Business School when all you took was an online correspondence course for 2 weeks.
