I just read the small print on my pack of hand wipes to read in horror “CAUTION: harmful to aquatic life with long term effects. Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.” I will Tweet the company, but in the meantime what’s something you thought innocent that turned out to be dangerous?

Just discovered that the company I work for doesn't recycle, and the contents of the 'recycle bins' are just thrown away.
I know this isn't the right response but now I just think, why bother? Does anyone even care?

Favorite show ever! !

I love lots of shows but as a historian, I'd give special praise to this one.

It's about the run up to World War 1 and that's a theme that should be more widely discussed (I'd also recommend reading The Sleepwalkers by Christopher Clark), and will appeal to everybody because it's so well written and acted.
Not perfect (I'd have preferred the French, German and Russian scenes to be in the original language with subtitles, rather than all in English, and could have done with more about America, and more in general as it's quite short) but highly recommended.
The scene in which the German socialists are persuaded to support the war- which of course they did- is a master stroke.
Welcome to my ask, btw :)

It's October, aka "Spooky Season". What are some of your favourite spooky movies, whether they're horrors, thrillers, family friendly ones like Paranorman etc?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
No spoilers, but my favourite is The White Ribbon by Michael Haneke. Not only a masterly and horrifying story, but first-rate acting and a historical setting.
Look it up, though it's hard to avoid spoilers so I'd recommend watching it without previews and see how excellent it is.

Yesterday was International Pronoun Day. What are your pronouns? Feel free to use this to speak about your gender, trans people, your gender expression or how you express your gender now vs when you were younger etc.

I'm completely cisgender & heterosexual, it's good that LGBT people can be open about their orientation and I hope the remaining barriers are swept away soon. But it's never been something I do myself.

What are your favourite seasonal foods for Autumn/Fall? Btw did you know that the name "Fall" is actually older than the name "Autumn"?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
Yes, the etymology is interesting because fall is an Anglo-Saxon word, whereas Autumn is a Norman word! So my forebears would have said fall, though now I wouldn't use a term that, whatever its origins, has become an Americanism.
As for food, it's perfect time to be a soup fan, as I am, and I'm making soups of squash, pumpkin (I like to go on the first of November and buy what wasn't sold for Halloween at a discount), celeriac, leek & potato, and so on.
It's a bit depressing when you look in the 'seasonal' aisle of a supermarket and, instead of apples, pears and fresh Autumn vegetables, they have a load of Halloween tat which will soon give way to Christmas tat. But still, lovers of good food will have enough choice at this time of year!

Hey everyone I follow! Tomorrow's my birthday (the 18th) so I'm planning on sending out a few spam questions. If anyone sees this and you want me to follow you, let me know. I plan on doing spam more often again. Anyway, to add a question if you have TikTok what's your @ ?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
Please feel free to follow me & ask questions as I like your questions, though I may not respond to you (or anyone else, for which I apologise) if I can't think of anything to say.
I am too old to have ever heard of tiktok so that's a no :)

what are you afraid of?

No-deal Brexshit could cause me to be out of a job by Christmas, homeless & hungry by Easter. It's an absolute nightmare. Longer term my fear is that if it's only very bad, but not an absolute calamity, the government will herald this as some huge success and persuade enough people to ignore those who suffer as a consequence as there aren't too many (not too many for suburban lower-middle-class conservatives, that is).
They will say the fearmongers are wrong because there's only a bit of a recession!!? And will I fear successfully blame 'foreigners'.

What items do you always carry to your bag ?

Phone, wallet, bottles of water (I fill old juice bottles with water to keep hydrated during my walks- I would never buy a bottle of water as it's a waste), notebook, books, ipod, ipad, portable radio.
It's quite a big manbag to fit all this stuff in but I use all of it and I'm more often out than in so I need it.

What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday?

Go for a walk in the morning, and in the day either visit my girlfriend or buy good food then read The Economist and a book, & eat the food afterwards.
Not being at work ensures that I relish most weekends!

What are u doing today?

Right now, listening to the archers and chilling out!
Earlier on, cycled to https://www.staffsmoorlands.gov.uk/article/890/Ladderedge-Country-Park , did my voluntary work there, cycled back, ate, watched the Andrew Marr Show & Countryfile, now got the archers on & playing some Bobby Dylan later.
Tired & trying to avoid thinking about going back to the office tomorrow, but I've had a useful day!
Here I am at Ladderedge another time, after clearing a load of himalayan balsam.
