The poetry book the Complete Works of AE Housman moved me deeply, as it expresses my own status of a cool and even standoffish front, with a burning heart inside.

I'd recommend the full book as it's quite short and is wonderful. Housman wasn't especially nice to those he met and seemed cold, and probably wouldn't have cared much about my situation, but he has been a genunine help to me where others fail.
"So Alfred has a heart after all" remarked his aunt after reading his book, and indeed he did, and expressed what is in mine.

I don't think the two are evenly balanced in the west as the alt-right/fascists have the tacit support of the US president. I don't think he's a fascist himself, but he'd say or do anything to keep the reins of power so he'll make use of those birdbrains and makr concessions to them if it furthers his own ends.
(They don't know or seem to care that their own lives are made worse by this; they hate the people who are anti-Trump rather than coming up with a specific reason to be pro-Trump).
Ido give some credence to the horseshoe theory though.

You see this most clearly in Britain, where the ultra-left (George Galloway, anyone?) join forces with the ultra-right to support Brexshit, because their fantasy of a socialist utopia is more important than the wellbeing of real people in the real world.
As a Remain voter I supported the deal Theresa May brought back two weeks ago as it's the least bad option for minimising the damage done by wankers. But Jeremy Corbyn first talks about the evils of no deal (which I agree with), then refuses to help bring about a deal, because the Bennites and bellends are pressing him on it.
So I think the ultra-right are more a threat than the ultra-left but I would never deny that the ultra-ledt are a threat.

In France, it's legal for 16year olds to drink beer and wine. Whereas spirits and liquor are only legal when 18 and above. What's your opinion on the legal age for alcohol consumption being split like this?

I think it's a terrific idea if that's what it is.
I'm not sure where the law lies in France as it seems to be stricter than it was, but easing people into moderate drinking makes more sense than British (Protestant-derived) mix of repression and libertinism, with no happy medium.

Funny story about that film, I wanted to see it at the cinema but none of my mates would come and I didn't want to go alone as I'd look like an old perv who wants to watch a film about lesbians. Which I suppose I am, but I don't want everyone knowing that! So I've never seen it; would you recommend?
I agree, blue is my favourite colour and a peaceful sky blue is the most soothing. It is thus the colour of my walls, quilt & slanket.

I wanted to simultaneously be a quiz show host and deep sea diver, I'm not sure when I realised this wasn't going to happen but it wasn't a very good plan in retrospect!

How much screen time is too much?

It depends; arguably I have too much, but if I didn't have to spend 35 hours a week doing it for work I certainly wouldn't.
I do think many children have far too much; I was horrified by my cousins (who are 7 and 5) browsing videos throughout their time 'with' us, even during a family meal. And another cousin plays his xbox throughout the night and falls asleep in school, which is horrifying, especially since my uncle claims he can't prevent it. Is it so hard to prevent a 10 year old doing sonething, for their own good?
In my opinion it should be limited to an hour a day for children and they should be studying, reading books and playing outside or being taken to places by their parents the rest of the time. I appreciate some use of computers is necessary for study but not so much. And for under 16s they shouldn't be allowed to have devices in their own room as what is really the need for that?
Also no one should sleep next to their devices (I'm horrified that some do; turning a phone on is the worst imaginable thing when unable to sleep) and everyone should go quiet for at the very least 8 hours a night.
I'm not against technology but it should be the servant, not the master.

When last week a Brexshitter, who is fairly intelligent but very lazy, "explained" at great length how amazing it will all be and why Boris Johnson is the best leader of tomorrow.
I was impressed by her gift for rhetoric, extemporary speaking, and the sheer nerve to put forward a view that is complete shit. But I think overconfident people with nothing in particular to back it up are the problem.

I'm not sure fam, I've never been the assertive, alpha type but on the other hand I can do something I set my mind to. Yesterday I got lost on my walk and had to go at a forced pace and strain myself to get to the destination before dark, then catch the bus. There was no one else out there (it was a very remote part of Wales) so I just went for it.

When was the last time you wrote a letter?

I don't write letters fam, & never have.
I'd like to be some kind of Edwardian bachelor man of letters, corresponding with GK Chesterton, Arnold Bennett, Bernard Shaw, and anyone else who wrote to me in my study, but that's far from my actual life.

When someone you like buggers things up, or when someone stubbornly and persistently acts against their own interests (Ben Isaacs, for instance), or recently I could apply this to myself and my own mishaps.

I like lots of things mate, today I breakfasted on porridge, a banana & an orange, didn't have any dinner as I wasn't hungry and tea was as follows:
Veggie burger on toasted rye bread with butter & mint sauce.
Toasted rye bread, peanut butter & jam
Yoghurty peanuts & raisins
Some small bars of vegan chocolate from the health shop
It would take too long to list all my likes and dislikes (though I will single out that horrible processed "tomato" sauce in tinned beans & spaghetti as something I especially loathe) so I've just given a list of foods for the day instead :)

I don't believe so; I myself eat meat and dairy and, while I'm interested in veganism (my uncle has been vegetarian since 1977 and is on the brink of going vegan, so I know one can eat well that way, and I've had a vegetarian day today) I don't think it will catch on globally.
Although there are millions of religious vegetarians in India and ethical vegetarians in the West and elsewhere, I believe over time there will be more meat not less as more and more people in Africa and other places will have more children and will begin to adopt a consumer lifestyle.
Perhaps understandably, they want to eat meat after having not been able to afford it for most of their lives.
As the developing world becomes better off they will eat more meat; they may eventually take up veganism as is happening in the west but there will be much more livestock farming and I imagine the trend will rise over the decades to come.

I think it is a possibility that forms of life exist on other planets, but I don't know?
CS Lewis had this to say; even if (like me) you're not a religious believer, you can easily see what he meant in the context of the way people carry on and the diseases physical and spiritual they might carry to extraterrestrial life forms.
"I look forward with horror to contact with the other inhabited planets, if there are such. We would only transport to them all of our sin and our acquisitiveness, and establish a new colonialism. I can’t hear to think of it. But if we on earth were to get right with God, of course, all would be changed. Once we find ourselves spiritually awakened, we can go to outer space and take the good things with us. That is quite a different matter."

I don't want it and I think it's an absurd piece of theatre; conservatives loved saying Obama was style over substance, but then fell for someone who actually is that.
If he doesn't want immigrants, why not stop buggering up everyone else's country, such as by his cheerleading for Saudi atrocities in the Yemen?

What's a hidden Netflix gem that you love? I recently found Kim's Convenience on there. It's about a Korean-Canadian family and I love it. If you don't have Netflix, what's a hidden gem that you found in a store? Like, the last pair of nice shoes, a reduced but usually expensive item of clothing etc

I haven't used it much as I had it but cancelled before my free trial was out, I was only there in order to view The Last Kingdom.

It's terrific, set amidst real events, and with the storytelling of Bernard Cornwell who is second to none. There are a number of Irish characters, including Uhtred's second in command, and they have always considered themselves better than the Britons because unlike us they were never conquered by Rome.
It's not very cheerful but Uhtred is a great character who is noble in the truest sense, the stories are so well written and you can't lose with that time period so I recommend it.
(Another hidden gem that I found is a masseur that I've been visiting for more than a year; her rates are very competitive and she really helps me relax and so on).
