Studying is a super useful skill to develop in high school, it’s impossible to get through all of your schooling without it, no matter how naturally things come! Especially med school and ivy leagues, I totally recommend developing a habit to study so that it feels comfortable to spend the time doing it! Even the person who I considered the smartest person I knew couldn’t get through university on pure intellect.

Generally middle school and some of grade 9 is full of shitty people LOL. I mean there are always shitty people, but everyone there is going through awkward af stages and everyone seems to be incredible cruel. There’s nothing wrong with not choosing to befriend everyone - I definitely don’t, but like you that’s just my personality type. I keep to myself a lot, more of a thinker than the outgoing type, although I have no problems being outgoing in some situations. My personality type for MBTI is INTJ though so this really makes sense LOL.

You might find yourself a bit standoffish for the first little while of high school, just due to the fact you are so academically oriented, and there is nothing wrong with it. You will definitely find people there though who are as academically focused as you - they definitely exist and you will naturally encounter them!

Equality is broader than just peers, and your place in your personal social circle; it really is quite intersectional bringing in age, race, gender, and social structures and existing inequalities into the mix. There are different kinds of equality, depending on the context you talk about them! It’s very important and complex, and while you do not have to see everyone as your personal equal, I’ve learned one thing from being friends with people who are interested in many different disciplines from the maths to languages, that everyone has something to bring to the table. Everyone has a unique perspective on the world and is tuned into different things. It’s absolutely fascinating to learn from other people and their experiences, and it definitely makes you a more well rounded intellectual person. I honestly value the knowledge I can gain from others just as much as the knowledge I already know. It’s exciting to learn from my peers as it’s impossible for me to learn everything on my own.

High school is definitely a time of discovery and freedom, by the end of it your parents will have to let you walk to the corner store alone by the end of it ;) I mean you will be 17 or 18!

Don’t let anyone dissuade you or make fun of you for aiming high so early on - imo that is the only way to get anywhere is if you start aiming high early on. I had no idea what university I would attend in HS, and as a result, just sort of derped (with great grades) through my studies, and went to a convenient university near me. I don’t regret that, it was a great decision, but now I have the motivation and self confidence to aim very high for my masters program. The program I want to attend is the only one in Canada, and if I can keep my GPA up, I can win a full ride scholarship. I’m so determined to get into this program, and I know that the only way I would be able to get in, is if I start now, in my second year of my first degree. It’s never too early to start planning especially if you want to go into an Ivy League. I think you will really be able to find yourself among equals and fellow intellectuals there. It might frustrate you how seemingly unintelligent people /still/ are in high school, but if you attend an Ivy League you will definitely be among people who are of the same nature as you which is such an important learning environment to be in!

This is so incredible that you got elected for the honor society! That’s amazing! Congradulations!!!! YOU SO DESERVE IT!! And no, don’t worry, it’s definitely not conceited to acknowledge that you’re academically gifted. It’s not that many people who actually are, and imo humility is just as bad as being too egotistical. Recognizing and appreciating ones talents though is totally acceptable! This is really great that you’ve started researching health on your own! I hope you find it really rewarding and that is is something that you are actually going to enjoy! Don’t be alarmed if a few years from now you change your mind, it may or may not happen, but there’s a lot of time before you have to decide what to do for your post secondary schooling so you’ve got lots of time to prep for your med school or see where your life takes you! It’s a great idea to get started early though, especially if you’re inspired.

Again shit I'm so sorry I am not on top of answering questions lately. I've been so wrapped up in my studies - my program for my summer job requires me to apply for 1 of 12 "fake" jobs (they were real at one point in time, but now they're just used as examples) and basically write a resume, cover letter, and do fake interviews for them. One of them was Assistant Museum Curator so I was like awe yeaaa i'll use this!! So I clicked on it, and BAM it was Assistant Curator for THE MUSEUM I VOLUNTEER AT LMAO and the thing is that they actually get staff from the museum to do these fake interviews to give the students legit practice with job interviews. SO BASICALLY MY SUPERVISOR WHO I KNOW REALLY WELL OR ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE STAFF WHO KNOWS ME IS GONNA BE INTERVIEWING ME. how weird is this i still can't get over it LOL. like what are the chancessssssss. so basically this entire practice section of the program will be reallllly easy and after i complete it I can apply for the real jobs for the summer!

I remember that essay you wrote about me ; A ; I was so touched, and am still touched that you did that a;lskjf;laskdjf. Seriously. 18 college credits could be quite a bit! I mean, it depends on your college :) Each one has a different credits system, or at least that's how it is here, so how transferrable they are depends on your school! I think that's a really amazing step that you met with a GDer and talked about it with him, and I totally understand why the appeal would not be there. It's a hard business and you have to deal with shitty people all day. You may be surprised with how your life path turns out, as it will no doubt change through highschool, but it's really good to have a goal in mind like you do right now! My advice would be to just keep an open mind to changes that may occur! Either in the entire goal, or how you achieve it! :)

Hey, don't despair okay. You still have hope (I know this probably sounds crazy) but I'm here for you, and if you ever want another means to contact me, just let me know and I'm happy to provide anything. I cannot image how hard this is being totally isolated from everything and everyone. This is /COMPLETELY/ unacceptable. Your parents, while to them, may seem like they have good intentions, it's entirely inhumane for them to do this to you. In addition to everything else they've done in the past.

Would it be possible for you to go to your school counsellor again? And tell them /everything/? Or one of your favourite teachers during a lunch period or something? I know they will be really willing to help you, and I think it would really make a huge difference to reach out to them - to have some real physical support. You're an incredibly strong girl, who has been through so much already. But it's exactly that reason that you're going to be okay. Because you've done this before and made it - made yourself better for it. I know it's hard to see the light in situations like this, but you are amazing and strong and I know you can do this. Get through this. You've only gone through about 10% of your life, so you're going to be okay and things ARE going to get better - they always do no matter how dark they get.

If possible, can you find a hobby to take comfort in that doesn't involve other people or the internet? I know that this might be really hard to do, but if you can find any other way of creative expression, that brings at least a little relief, it might really help. Even if it's just a diary? Some writing, or drawing? What about any academic programs that your parents will know have to do with school, but also will allow you to connect with some other people to reach out for support? Any way to find less time to spend at home. If you can't do this now, find as many ways as you can to do this in HS. And no matter how shitty things get, and it seems like nobody cares, VidderTips cares about you - all of us. We're here for you if you ever need to reach out for support. Don't forget about the friends you've made here - we're here for you. This might all take some time, it is going to be hard, but if you hold onto the things that are important to you, and can find motivation to press on, you're going to be okay. You have every capability to be able to come out even stronger from this. I believe in you.

HOLLA. Well, I'm not sure how extensively you follow my limited social media, but TSwift has been rocking my tumblr icon for several months now. Honestly I didn't care much about her before 1989, I'm not gonna lie. But I /really/ respect her music now. 1989 has been incredibly influential in my life, and I really owe a lot of emotional growth, development, and realization to her songs. They helped (and continue to help) me through harder times in the last few months. They honestly brought me so much strength 8) [Esp. like Blank Space, Shake It Out, Bad Blood, New Romantics). The album really inspires me to take no shit from anyone, especially stupid guys fucking around, and that I am a fucking badass and can do whatever the fuck I want to do with style and confidence because I'm worth it.

In terms of Taylor herself, I respect that she writes and creates music for herself, instead of having her music written for her. I'm not much a celebrity person myself, I don't really care to follow it, but naturally stuff filters onto my dash occasionally, and she seems to be a pretty cool person. But like I said, I don't really follow her life or her speeches or anything.
