Sorry late reply. Your Q got me thinking. I think what happened to me was I didn't know so here I was thinking I'm happy and everything's okay only to find the real and sad truth that it's not a bed of roses. From then on, I vowed to myself that I'd take the sad truth any time over lies. :)
