I really agree that owners designing their foals would take away the surprise of the moment, but for people who are responsible about it I think it could still be helpful to get some of those slots used. No one wants to see their slots go to waste, but I know no one wants to stress you guys either
I understand your point of view, absolutely, but I still don't think it would be the most optimal option to let owners do their own breedings. I honestly don't think Horsy would support the idea either.
We don't know when the breed will close so there may still be time for people to get some of their breedings done, and if Horsy allow a special period to get breedings out of the way then that's another chance to get more of them done but I still wouldn't expect that everyone get all their breedings done if they have too many planned, we can't satisfy everyone or keep the breed open just so everyone can get their lists finished, I would just be happy that we get the chance to get some done before it's too late.

What if you had specific time periods when you would be approving foals? It would be like when you open breedings; people can send their foals during this time period and await approval - anything that doesn't meet the guidelines for equids is rejected with some advice on how to fix it for next time
That would possibly be a better way to handle things in that case, although I'm still not fully supportive of the idea of owners handling their own breedings to be honest, even with specific time periods I still feel that we artists would end up spending a lot of time correcting faults and explaining this or that and why or why not and some might get hurt because their idea was rejected.

Would you be in favor of equid owners completing their own breedings before the species is closed, and having those designs approved? Or would you rather that you and the other artists just take as many breedings as you all can? Or does it not matter to you at all lol
I'm a bit on the fence about this, mainly because even if equid owners did their own breedings it would still possibly mean a lot of work for us staff to make sure that the designs meet the guidelines for the specie, so that colors, markings and quipping isn't all over the place. Breedings do take time for us artists too, but having to approve tons of breedings from every direction and possibly having to wait for faults to be corrected may mean a longer process.
Personally I wouldn't mind putting more work towards doing breedings myself, I've just been too busy lately to set that time aside for it.

Don't worry! I will be completing the breedings and have planned to for a while now, things have simply gotten in the way and I've been dealing with a lot of stress for personal reason. I've promised the breeding and I'm not going to just give up on them.
As for more interest in other species; no, some species I'm involved in simply have deadlines that I've been forced to prioritize for a while, which is why they've gotten more attention.

A couple of toes, right little toe was badly broken and healed wrong, broken pretty much every toe on that foot when handling horses and not wearing correct shoes. Also broken a rib and gotten cracks in a few after faceplanting from a swing.
